Native Plant Nursery Manager

Beautyberry Gardens, LLC, a native landscape design and install company based in Decatur, Georgia, is seeking a native nursery manager. BBG is a supportive, family run, woman owned company, especially interested in hiring people with a passion for native plants, gardens, and all things outdoors. 

 

Activities will include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Seed collection and starting, cuttings, plugs, divisions, and up-potting

  • Plant care and maintenance including weeding, pruning, deadheading

  • Sourcing, receiving, and labeling plant inventory

  • Training nursery team members and volunteers

  • Updating and adding new plant material to the online store 

  • Liaising with customers via text, telephone, and email

  • Ensuring the propagation areas are clean and well-organized

  • Effective management of irrigation systems

  • Ensuring adequate winter protection of all plants

  • Helping other company departments during slow season

  • Occasional driving of company vehicle for plant pick up/delivery

 

Essential Requirements:

 

  1. Extensive knowledge/education/background (3+ years minimum) of native plants and their care

  2. Extensive knowledge/education/background (3+ years minimum) in horticulture 

  3. At least 2 years retail or customer service experience 

  4. Able to answer plant queries in a timely, polite manner, with impeccable spelling and grammar

  5. Experience collecting, processing, and starting seed, preparing cuttings, divisions and up potting

  6. Experience managing and training employees and volunteers

  7. Willingness to work as part of a team and effectively communicate with other team members

  8. A valid US driver’s license with a clean record with 3 years plus driving experience 

  9. Excellent punctuality 

  10. Good physical health, stamina, and able to lift at least 50lbs repeatedly 

  11. Ability to adapt to extreme and variable weather

  12. Ability to follow instructions and use caution when using heavy equipment

Preferred Requirements:

​​

  1. Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Soil Science, Agronomy or related field from an accredited institution

  2. Experience managing a nursery 

  3. Experience working in retail garden center/nursery

Employment Type: Full-Time, Part-time, Contract

LOVE NATIVE PLANTS?

COME AND VOLUNTEER IN THE PLANT NURSERY!!

​

Friday and Saturday mornings. 9.30 - 12.30 and we will provide lunch. There is always a certain amount of lifting involved so please don't volunteer if you have any injuries or back issues.

​

Tasks include:

​

  • Starting seed

  • Up-potting

  • Weeding

  • Dividing plants

  • Watering 

  • Planting

​

We often have plants for you to take home as well. We can only take 1-2 volunteers at a time so please email ahead to inquire if there is room.

​

If you are a student you are welcome to apply to intern for college credit. We are closely located to both Agnes Scott and Emory University. Please note that we only accept interns in the nursery and we do not have any design internships.
