Monarda fistulosa, also known as Wild Bergamot or Bee Balm, is a beautiful and aromatic addition to any garden. This plant is in the mint family and so the positive is that you can make mint tea, and the negative is that it can spread aggressively.

SOIL REQUIREMENTS:

This perennial plant thrives in well-drained, fertile soil and can tolerate a wide range of soil types, including sandy and clay soils

LIGHT REQUIREMENTS:

It prefers full sun but can also tolerate partial shade but will most likely get some powdery mildew which for the most part is not detrimental to the plant.

SIZE:

2-4 feet tall, spreads by rhizomes. We recommend thinning out in springtime.

BLOOM TIME/COLOR:

Monarda fistulosa adds a pop of color to any garden with its showy lavender to pink flowers that bloom from mid-summer to early fall.

COMPANION PLANTS:

For a stunning garden display, consider planting Monarda fistulosa alongside other full sun loving perennials such as Eryngium, Rudbeckia, Echinacea, Ratibida, Salvia, and native prairie grasses.

LARVAL HOST:

Monarda fistulosa is also a larval host for the larvae of the Hermit Sphinx, a type of moth, making it a valuable addition to any wildlife garden. With its attractive blooms and ability to support pollinators, Monarda fistulosa is a must-have for any plant lover's collection.
